# Loren Crain

Software engineer and indie game developer in southwest Missouri. I build web software, games, and the infrastructure behind them. I am open to engineering roles, freelance work, and contracts.

## Experience

- Professional work spans financial technology, e-commerce, and games.
- As a financial technology contractor, I built features for production websites using an AWS stack that included Lambda, Cognito, DynamoDB, Amplify, CloudWatch, Route 53, IAM, and Secrets Manager. The client and product are unnamed here.
- I have used Codex, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, OpenCode, and T3 Code across contract and independent work developing complex systems.
- I designed and maintain [Basaltwater](basaltwater.html), an open-source toolkit for repeatable Linux setup, web deployments, operations, and coding environments. I use it to manage this website and my internal tools, services, and workstations. [Source repository](https://github.com/bluehexagons/basaltwater).
- I am the solo developer of [Antistatic](antistatic.html), a platform fighter built with a bespoke C and TypeScript engine.

## Engineering areas

- Linux and Proxmox machine setup, service management, diagnostics, and recovery.
- Static site and service deployment with staging, health checks, isolated runtime users, and persistent data.
- Web frontend and backend development, games, and development tooling.
- Managed Git workspaces, browser verification, and access boundaries for coding environments.

## Work I care about

I am especially interested in engineering work for nonprofits, wildlife conservation and environmental efforts, expanding access to science and technology, and human rights causes.
